Product Description
This is a new Leviton #47611-GTY Multimedia 10/100 Mbps Internet Gateway Router for use in a Leviton SMC (Structured Media Center) or as a stand alone device. This is used to share an internet connection among multiple computers and provides the shielding of a packet filtering NAT firewall - this is especially important if you have DSL or a cable modem. If you need more ports, you can cascade them together. Specifications include:
- Allows multiple users to share a single, secure, high-speed internet connection
- Provides a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Switch with (5) RJ-45 ports and uplink capability (allows you to cascade several units together if you need more ports now or in the future)
- Features LED's to indicate network activity including LINK, ACT, and WAN
- Network Address Translation (NAT) Firewall protects users from outside observation - a great first step in network security - you should also consider adding a software firewall from a company such as McAfee, etc. Remember that if you are looking at plain switches or hubs that they do not have NAT.
